Amar es el Milagro Foundation was born from a deeply personal journey. As parents of a child diagnosed with phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare inherited metabolic condition, we suddenly found ourselves navigating an unfamiliar world of strict dietary management, specialized nutrition, constant monitoring, and uncertainty. We had many questions and very few places to find the guidance and support we needed.
That experience changed our lives and ultimately became our purpose. What began as one family’s determination to learn, adapt, and care for our child grew into a commitment to make sure other families facing PKU and rare metabolic conditions would not have to navigate that journey alone. Amar es el Milagro Foundation was founded in 2024 from that commitment.
Today, our work combines direct assistance, education, and community support. We help children and families access specialized low-protein foods, metabolic nutrition, medications, essential supplies, and other resources that can be difficult or costly to obtain. We provide practical educational resources to help families better understand the everyday realities of managing a metabolic condition, and we create opportunities for families to connect, learn, and feel supported by a community that understands their experience.
Education has become an important part of our mission. Our first children’s book, Feliz-cetonuria: Las recetas del Capitán Salsa de Tomate, was created to make PKU nutrition more approachable for Spanish-speaking children and families. On April 1, 2026, we expanded that effort with the publication of the English edition, The Happy Kitchen Solution, allowing us to reach even more families. Proceeds from the books support the Foundation’s mission and help us continue developing resources for the PKU community.
In 2026, we also brought that education to life through a hands-on cooking class where children and families could learn, cook, and experience low-protein nutrition in a positive and engaging environment. Experiences like these reflect the future we are building: one where children living with PKU are not defined only by restrictions, but are given knowledge, confidence, community, and opportunities to thrive.
Although Amar es el Milagro is a young organization, our reach continues to grow. We support families in the United States and across Latin America, including communities where access to specialized nutrition and resources can be extremely limited. Through the generosity of donors, volunteers, partners, and sponsors, we are building a growing network of support around children and families affected by PKU and other rare metabolic conditions.
For us, impact is found in every family that feels less alone, every child who receives the nutrition or resources they need, and every parent who gains knowledge and hope for the road ahead. What started with one family’s experience has become a shared mission: to ensure that families facing rare metabolic conditions have access not only to essential resources, but also to education, community, and hope.
