ART YARD BKLYN (AYB) is a not-for-profit arts organization that provides
contemporary visual art education for underserved and often marginalized people
of all ages through dedicated classes and K–12 school partnerships. We mentor
artists as they grow, offering support, community, and opportunities as both
creators and teachers.
We believe art is a holistic practice — one that nourishes body, mind,
heart, and spirit. Through learning, making, and discussing art, we build
bridges across generations and experiences, fostering civic engagement, social
awareness, and a safe haven where everyone is treated with kindness and
respect.
Our programs take place in schools, community spaces, and our studio —
until recently at the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) in Red Hook,
Brooklyn.
On September 18, 2024, a devastating five-alarm warehouse fire destroyed
our Red Hook studio, along with all of our supplies, archives, artwork, and
documentation.
And yet, within a week, our community rallied. Artists, students,
families, and neighbors came together to help us rebuild. We quickly resumed
programming in a temporary space at 180 Franklin Avenue, Brooklyn. We are now focused on rebuilding our studio, replacing essential supplies,
and restoring our archives so we can continue to serve as a creative home for
all.

sustain our programming, and ensure that AYB remains a vibrant, inclusive space
for creativity, connection, and community for years to come.
