$5,000 Goal

Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society provides a community of equine rescue and support for horses and humans.

What does this mean?

It means that we work with law enforcement agencies and horse owners across the state of Texas to help horses: through investigations, educating owners when possible, and removing horses when necessary.

It means that we provide quality care, housing, and training - and plenty of love and compassion - to horses who were once abused, neglected, or unwanted.

It also means helping owners who are struggling to take care of their horses through also offering low cost euthanasia, low cost gelding, and hay and feed to help struggling owners care for their horses.

And it means supporting and encouaging each other as we learn more about the horses we love.

Testimonials

"Bluebonnet Cares. From Jennifer the top down to the many, many volunteers that give of their time and facilities, the communication, results, and accountability speaks of commitment to the sole purpose of giving all so these most pristine animals, many of whom have fallen to neglect through no cause of their own. You lead by example, and Jennifer is the ultimate servant leader. All people and resources are accountable.

At the end of the day, there is only care for those unfortunate animals without a voice, who at one point had surely been someone’s pride and joy, but as few understand, horse ownership is not a seasonal obligation. It is a long term. It is costly, yet the return is greater that anyone who does not own a horse can imagine. It is also a responsibility to be taken most seriously as horses are what made this country a great place to live."

"Sunkist has been my equine partner since I adopted her in 2010. When she first came home, she had really not had any training and could be haltered and led but even touching her past her shoulder was not really possible. Over the years, through working with wonderful trainers and lots of time and work to build our connection, Sunkist has become my "horse of a lifetime". Trail rides, ranch rodeos, horsemanship clinics and open shows have been fun activities that we've done together but mostly I just have loved having a really strong relationship with my amazing horse! I am so grateful for the years I've had with her!"

"I have been a supporter of Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society (BEHS) for quite some time. I’ve been a practicing equine veterinarian for nearly twenty years, and in my career thus far, BEHS is the only equine rescue I have seen that truly has it all. Everything needed to make a successful rescue and always put the horse first is in place. I love watching my patients go from an emaciated sad case not far from death, or a wild creature that has never been touched, to healthy productive equine citizens thanks to the many trainers and fosters in the BEHS network. This training is a big focus of BEHS, and a big part of why these horses find their loving homes and why they keep them, and sets BEHS apart from so many others.

Doing the work BEHS does isn’t cheap, and they do a great job of finding and obtaining grants to help. As a veterinarian, BEHS has assisted my clients with funds for castrations and euthanasias (both very essential services!) from targeted grants. Grants such as yours are what make it possible to keep helping these horses.
