Fancy Cats & Dogs Rescue Team

OUR MISSION

Fancy Cats & Dogs Rescue Team is a non-profit 501(c)(3) pet adoption organization serving the DMV area. FCDRT works hand-in-hand with low-income, rural shelters finding homes for cats and dogs in need. Our mission is to reduce euthanasia by promoting spay and neuter practices, to find suitable lifetime homes for our cats and dogs, and to educate the public on responsible pet ownership.

Founded in August 1997 by Catherine Awad, Fancy Cats & Dogs has now grown to over 400 fosters and volunteers with four PetSmart Adoption Centers. In addition, we have partnered with Alexandria's first cat cafe + wine bar, Mount Purrnon.

On average, Fancy Cats & Dogs helps over 2,000 cats and dogs each year. Since our inception in 1997, we have found loving homes for more than 25,000 cats and dogs, but there is still much work to do. As part of our mission, we do not turn away cats or dogs due to illnesses or injuries. In fact, we are usually the ones who take them in when no one else is willing to...but that is only true when we have the financial resources to do so..
