Friends of SACCCATS

A nonprofit organization

Thanks to you, we have earned a Great Non-Profit Top Rated badge

Friends of San Antonio College Community Cats (FoSACCCATS) is a feline welfare, rescue and TNR (Trap, Neuter, and Release) organization that was formed in 2011 to looked after the wellbeing of the numerous stray cats inhabiting the campus environment.  Without the support of the college, the feeding, housing, fostering, and medical care of these animals has fallen exclusively to volunteers—staff, faculty and students.

As a result of this care, over 200 cats have been spayed or neutered since 2011, while another 75 or more have been fostered until forever homes could be found, reducing the campus feline population by approximately 42%.   Just this year 11 additional cats will have received treatment (neutering/spaying, vaccinations, disease testing and prevention meds).  As importantly, this care has created community of healthy and content cats, thereby improving the physical and emotional wellbeing of the campus environment and the surrounding community.

We need you!

How many times have each of us come across a stray animal abandoned on the street—an emaciated, hungry, and frightened cat or dog, even worse, injured or sick.  It breaks your heart, and you rush to think how can I help?   Friends of San Antonio College Community Cats is premised on this experience…daily, monthly, and over many years.  But care is not without cost.  While FoSACCCATS can obtain free spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, combo tests, flea and heart worm treatment averages $110 per animal, not counting the many life- and limb-saving medical procedures costing thousands of dollars, all personally funded by organization members.  Food cost, also covered by volunteers, runs upwards of $700/month.

You make the work possible!

So, we are asking you to help us in our mission. Each tax-deductible donation of $25, $60, $100 or more is an act of compassion, resulting in meals, containers, medication, and veterinary and reproductive care for an otherwise abandoned, neglected animal.  Our small number of volunteers will continue to love and care for the day-to-day needs of our beloved feline community, but the financial responsibility has become increasingly untenable for the few, and a serious impediment to recruiting new volunteers.  Ultimately, is our goal to eliminate our current debt and move FoSACCCATS towards a financially stable future that can be handed over to the next generation of caretakers.

Make your contributions go twice as far!

Numerous businesses will once again participate in the many ‘Match Minutes’ offered throughout the 24-hour event (see dates and times below).  This means that any amount donated during the 24-hour event—up to $100—can be match dollar-for-dollar.  In order to have your contributions matched, we urge you to register your donation before the designated ‘minute’, being ready to hit the DONATE  button at the very turn of the minute.  The $10,000 available during each of the ‘Match Minutes’ is literally gone within seconds, so donors must be ready.

This year's Match Minutes:

Wed., 9/17:

6:12 PM, 7:12 PM, 8:12 PM

Thurs., 9/18:

10:12 AM, 12:12 PM, 1:25 PM, 2:12 PM, 3:12 PM, 4:12 PM, 5:12 PM.
