Heroes on the Water is a program designed to help our Nation’s warriors and veterans from all branches of the United States military and their families unwind using the therapeutic qualities of fishing from kayaks.
Our program is unique in that it is a long-term activity, not a one-time event. We believe that the effectiveness of the program is a direct result of engaging the Veteran and their family for the long-term.
We encourage our veterans to bring their families with them. Serving in the military isn't something the veteran does on their own - the whole family is involved. We provide everything the veteran and their family will need to enjoy the day - food, fishing equipment, fishing license, drinks, sun screen, kayaks, life vests, etc. We want them to have the ability to come to the event and let us worry about the details. Their only job is to relax and enjoy the day with their family.
“I am living a more fulfilling life today, because I stepped outside of my comfort (combat) zone, with the help, trust, care, and support of my fellow veterans and the Heroes on the Water program (such great people).” - Kevin Brown –
“The people who created this program saved my life. I had previously attempted suicide twice, and with the struggles I was enduring, sensed it would happen again. Heroes on the Water makes me feel like I am wanted, these people care about me. I am calm. I am home.” - Stefani McCowan -
