The Lexington Community Orchestra, was founded in January 1990. There was an observed need for more performance opportunities for Lexington and Central Kentucky musicians. Orchestra members are semi-professional and professional musicians through out the state of Kentucky. The board of directors of the orchestra are all current performing members of the orchestra. The orchestra obtained 501(3) status September 5, 2008. Since 1990 the orchestra has collaborate with local community professional musicians and composers. Such as : The Lexington Singers, Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra, Eastern Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Asbury College Orchestra, Kentucky Ballet Theatre, Lexington Ballet Company, Daniel Mason and Benjamin Karp. The orchestral has also performed orchestral literature by local composers, Joseph Baber and Lorne Dechtenberg.
Mission:
The orchestra offers high quality performances of orchestral literature at no cost to the Lexington community. The orchestra provides opportunities for community musicians to perform orchestral literature as part of a non professional symphony orchestra and to foster fellowship among community musicians.
