Yucaipa Valley Christian School District

Yucaipa Christian Schools began in 1973 when a group of believers at First Baptist Church of Yucaipa (FBCY) felt the call of God to start a Christian school.  In a short period of time they were able to raise the funds and opened Yucaipa Christian Preschool as a ministry of FBCY.  In 1976 kindergarten was added and a Christian Education Building was constructed in 1978 to house the Elementary School.  A junior high was added in 1982 but was later dropped due to lack of enrollment and inadequate facilities.  Through the years, thousands of children in the greater Yucaipa area attended the preschool, elemenrary school and junior high.  

In June 2008 FBCY determined they no longer wanted to operate the school as a church ministry.  After prayerfully considering several options, a steering committee was formed and the decision was made to form an independent non-profit corporation, Yucaipa Valley Christian School District (YVCSD), to assume operations of the elementary and preschool.  Initial elections for the YVCSD Board of Directors occurred in April, 2009 and on July 1, 2009 YVCSD assumed operation of the elementary and preschool, which continued to be located in leased space at FBCY. 

In the summer of 2012 the preschool moved to its current home at Yucaipa Valley Church of the Nazarene on Avenue H in Yucaipa.  At the same time, the elementary school moved to United Methodist Church of Yucaipa on Beech Avenue in Yucaipa.  The elementary school operated at that location for two years but continued to experience declining enrollment and operated at a financial deficit.  In the Spring of 2014 the Board made the difficult decision to close the elementary school at the end of the 2013/14 school year. 

YVCSD currently operates the preschool and kindergarten in leased space at Yucaipa Valley Church of the Nazarene. YVCSD continues to invest in the leaders of tomorrow by providing quality Christ-centered schooling.
