The Airman Heritage Foundation believes in remembering the history, traditions, and way of life of the men and women who have served our nation through the United States Air Force (USAF) and the United States Space Force (USSF). Since 2004, the volunteer-driven Foundation has utilized public donations to fulfill its mission of preserving and honoring the history and heritage of enlisted Airmen and Guardians by supporting the following programs:
As the "Gateway to the Air Force," the USAF Heritage Museum collects, provides research, and preserves the USAF Enlisted Corps history, heritage, and traditions to develop Airman and Guardians of today and tomorrow. In addition to the collection of artifacts housed indoors, the museum also is the primary caretaker for the impressive Air Park that surrounds the parade grounds at Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) - Lackland. The park features 42 different aircrafts that span eight decades.
Our current museum was built in the 1940's and is in desperate need of modern facilities. Donations made to the Big Give would allow us the opportunity to preserve our current collection and grow educational experiences for enlisted Airmen, enlisted Guardians, and the public for years to come.
The Foundation serves our mission nationwide through coordinated outreach activities with partners from coast to coast. The organization's dedicated volunteer Outreach Manager provides curated exhibits, living history demonstrations, and much needed community outreach to share the importance of the USAF and the role that enlisted Airmen and Guardians have on our past, present, and future. The Big Give will allow the Foundation to help offset the cost of travel and protection for both our artifacts and volunteer staff.
In 2013, the Military Working Dog Teams National Monument was unveiled near the parade grounds at JBSA - Lackland. It is the only national monument dedicated to the service and in honor of the military working dog. The monument incorporates the history of the war-dog program from WWII to the Wars on Terror and includes five of the U.S. Armed Services. As JBSA - Lackland has historically been the recruiting and training facility for the U.S. Armed Services military working dog program, it is a fitting tribute that this beautiful national monument stands tall in San Antonio, TX. Donations from the Big Give will continue to allow the Foundation to maintain this beautiful monument so that we can continue to properly honor the sacrifices made by our four-legged counterparts.
Surrounding the parade grounds at JBSA - Lackland is the Foundation's Legacy Paver Program. Legacy Pavers (bricks) allow the public the opportunity to honor military service members - past, present, and future - as a lasting tribute of their service and dedication. The program serves the Foundation as an avenue to continue to share the rich legacy and history of the USAF and USSF. The Foundation is working on installing a tracking system that would not only allow for individuals to search for installed pavers but will also connect the paver to that service member's personal history. Contributions to the Foundation's Big Give campaign will also allow us to continue to provide necessary upkeep and caretaking for the pavers following installation for years to come.
With your help, the Airman Heritage Foundation can continue our work in honoring the rich history and heritage of enlisted USAF Airmen and USSF Guardians. We ask that you make a gift to continue to recognize the dedication and hard work of our military service members and veterans.
The Airman Heritage Foundation is a private, 501c3 non-profit organization, made of volunteers entrusted with the awesome responsibility of raising approximately $50 million in private funds to design, build, and equip a modern USAF Airman Heritage Museum at Joint Base San Antonio – Lackand.
