Who We Are

Artvango was founded by a concerned foster parent because on any given day in 2018, there were 8,000 confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect and 4,600 children in the foster care system in South Texas. In Bexar County alone 2,526 children were a part of the foster care system. No child should grow up with unresolved trauma created by circumstances out of their control.

Artvango, a creative therapy center was created by Yadi Puente a mother of 4 kids, 2 of which were adopted from the foster care system. She believes a child's mental health is one important component to raising a healthy adult. Children are limited in the ability to voice their thoughts and feelings. Using the creative arts as a form of self-expression develops a healthy style of communication, emotional regulation and heals. Artvango is making a positive impact in the community by offering non-traditional mental health techniques such as art therapy, animal assisted therapy and incorporates music, play, meditation and EMDR therapy, which have clinically shown to have a positive impact on children dealing with difficult issues such as trauma.

Artvango encourages parents to participate in their child's therapy session and offers ongoing parenting classes and support groups. The goal is to improve parents knowledge of how trauma affects their children, improve family communication, promote nurturing, and develop appropriate strategies for coping with unwanted behaviors.
