Autism Community Network (ACN) was founded in 2008
through a consortium of healthcare funders led the Kronkosky
Charitable Foundation to meet a primary concern for the growing
prevalence of autism and the rapid rise in demand for quality diagnostic
services. After a community planning project, ACN was incorporated in
2008 and opened its clinic to the community.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by a difference in development which can impact communication, social interaction, self-regulation, and relationships. ASD is complex, lifelong, and presents to varying degrees. Due to the nature of the disorder, it is critical to diagnose children for the best chance of success. According to the CDC (2021), the incidence rate of autism is 1 in 44. At a more local level, a study commissioned by the Kronkosky Charitable Foundation (2016) indicates 30,000 individuals in Bexar County and surrounding areas are impacted by autism.
The primary purpose of ACN is to improve
the health and quality of life of autistic children by providing early,
uniquely tailored diagnostic services to children suspected of having autism,
therapies to families impacted by autism, and support through training for caregivers
and providers whose interaction with autistic children is critical to their
success. Additionally, ACN works diligently to educate the community
about autism and, to the best of our ability, the experience of the impacted
family and autistic individual.
Autism Community Network (ACN) is a non-profit agency working on behalf of children and families for whom autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is either suspected, or medically diagnosed, in Bexar and surrounding counties. ACN was founded in 2008 by a consortium of health care funders concerned with the growing prevalence of ASD and the lack of developmental services in our area to address the increase in incidence rates. Of particular concern were families challenged by obstacles to quality health care, putting them in greater danger of misdiagnosis or late diagnosis.
Over the last 12 years, ACN has served over 20,000 individuals and diagnosed over 7,000 children. A committed staff of 17 individuals is changing lives of families affected by ASD. ACN's 9 clinicians have a combined 183 years of relevant experience offering this community the most expert and comprehensive approach to medical diagnostics, therapeutic intervention, effective caregiver training.
ACN offers:

-Classes, hands-on courses, and online resources for caregivers,
-Caregiver wellness monitoring via Resilience Through Relationship Program,
