The mission of Malta House of Care-Waterbury (the Malta Clinic) is to provide free, high-quality, coordinated primary healthcare to uninsured adults in the Greater Waterbury community without discrimination. The Malta Clinic is volunteer-powered, relying entirely on volunteer clinical staff. Through the generosity of these volunteers, we have provided over 10,000 patient visits since we first opened our doors in August of 2010.
The Malta Clinic's goal is to provide a medical home for our patients. We hope to reduce the inappropriate use of the emergency room for the treatment of chronic diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure, and to prevent the onset of advanced disease due to delayed treatment. Our patients are uninsured and are not eligible for health insurance, or they cannot afford it. All care is provided free of charge, and we try to assist our poorest patients with the costs of prescription medications and home medical equipment when they cannot afford it.
Historically, the Malta Clinic provided services through a mobile medical unit. However, beginning March 1, 2022, we opened the doors of our beautiful new brick-and-mortar clinic! Donations to the Malta Clinic help to ensure that upon entering our doors, the most underserved individuals in our community receive healthcare with dignity, in a safe and welcoming place.
*Malta House of Care-Waterbury is a federally recognized free clinic, licensed through the State of CT.*
