New Braunfels Railroad Museum

     The New Braunfels Railroad Museum is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving railroad artifacts and memorabilia and providing educational opportunities for the community about the historic contributions of the railroads. Centered around the historic New Braunfels rail depot built in 1907 by the International and Great Northern Railroad, the museum features a locomotive, boxcar, 1922 Pullman car, caboose, five model railroad layouts in various scales, and a collection of railroad signs, signals, memorabilia, tools, and photos from the railroads that have operated in the New Braunfels area and the southern United States.  Our mission is to educate our visitors and promote interest in model railroading for local and visiting families and rail fans alike. 

     We aim for an engaging, interactive experience.  This past year, we added new exhibits just for children, including a wall display that teaches about the cargo carried in the train cars types our visitors can see passing by the museum on the active Union Pacific railway every day.  Every first and third Saturday of the month is Kids Fun Day, featuring our Junior Engineers O-scale model railroad layout that allows kids to run the trains.  Each child walks away with a certificate designating them as an engineer and hopefully, with a new-found love of railroad modeling.   

     Forty years ago, a group of railroad enthusiasts came together for one purpose, to save the New Braunfels depot from ruin.  Renovated and expanded largely with volunteer manpower and donations, today the New Braunfels Railroad Museum is a jewel in the heart of downtown New Braunfels.  We are still managed and maintained by dedicated volunteers and rely on donations and the twice annual Jamboree Train Show for our operating expenses.
