New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault

Our Mission & History

The Alliance leads New York City's mission to end sexual violence through education, training and technical assistance, prevention programming, research, and advocacy for policy change.  In 2024, we benefited over 3,000 providers and community members who influence and support thousands of survivors annually across all five boroughs. Nearly a third of individuals we trained were Brooklyn-based while our policy advocacy is systemic and impacts all of Brooklyn.   

We pursue our mission by centering those most impacted by sexual violence, working through an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed approach. We prioritize working with those who are historically underserved, including BIPOC, immigrant, LGBTQ+, and low-income communities.

The Alliance was founded in 1999 by a coalition of rape crisis programs. We continue to be the only organization leading a coordinated response to sexual violence in NYC.

Until we end sexual violence in all forms, we are here for all survivors and the organizations that serve them.

How Your Support Helps

Your generosity will help to address sexual violence in Brooklyn and throughout New York City. For example, your support will: 

-Empower youth as leaders in preventing harm in their communities

-Equip college students with tools to address sexual violence on their campus

-Teach nightlife staff to prevent sexual violence and create safety in nightlife settings

-Give healthcare professionals skills to provide trauma informed, culturally competent care to survivors post sexual assault

-Educate legal and human services professionals about how to respond effectively to survivors
