Surveillance Technology Oversight Project

A nonprofit organization

Does it make you angry knowing Jeff Bezos knows more about you than your significant other? Does the NYPD's sprawling surveillance system make you mad? Do you want to make a difference and support your local over surveilled communities and neighbors? If you answered yes to all of these questions, it's time to join the privacy fight!

At S.T.O.P., we're fighting for New Yorkers' privacy -- because technological advancements should never come at the expense of our age-old rights. We advocate to abolish forms of mass surveillance, including facial recognition, DNA databases, geolocation tracking, and other technologies that track us all. Since our founding in 2019, we've taken the NYPD to court -- and won! -- and passed the POST Act, the first surveillance victory in more than a generation. Our work benefits all New Yorkers, but highlights the discriminatory impact of warrantless surveillance on Muslim Americans, immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, Indigenous peoples, and communities of color. We're redefining an analog Constitution for the digital age. Won't you join us?
