Temple Shalom

Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, Temple Shalom is a small, boutique-style synagogue—warm and welcoming—that believes in living by and building on its timeless Jewish teachings. Led by a dynamic rabbi with a strong track record in interfaith relations, we also work with the broader Louisville community—other faith families and NPOs—on social action and environmental protection efforts that move our city forward.

As samples of our work, we have adopted refugee families fresh from war-torn lands; we have planned and hosted MLK and Juneteenth events at our synagogue to celebrate Black-Jewish relations; we presented our first Banned Books Shabbat last year, which puts the spotlight on disturbing attempts by local and state governments to control what we read; we are always planting trees, cleaning up the riverfront, collecting essential at risk people overseas as well as groceries for the Sonny and Jenet Meyer Food Pantry. 

In short, we make common cause with communities and entities that defend our rights and liberties, take care of our most vulnerable neighbors, and protect the planet beneath our feet. All of which is consistent with the teachings of Judaism.
