Texas Round Up Animal Alliance

A nonprofit organization

Texas Round Up Animal Alliance
(TRUAA) is a private, grassroots, no-kill dog rescue and sanctuary located in the
Texas Hill Country. We believe every dog deserves safety, dignity, and love.
Many dogs in county shelters are considered “unadoptable” and face high
euthanasia risk. That’s where TRUAA steps in. Some of our rescue dogs come from
such tragic pasts that they stay with us for life, which we call our “Lifers”.
Others have special needs requiring extensive care. These dogs might never find
traditional homes, but at our sanctuary, they are loved and free to just be
dogs again.

In 2024, the number of dogs killed
in shelters increased by 6.2%. At TRUAA, we are dedicated to making a
difference and you can help.

Sugar is a remarkable dog but her
story began with heartbreak. Once used for breeding, she was surrendered to a
high-kill shelter in terrible condition—her skin raw and painful from long-term
neglect. TRUAA rescued her from certain death, and it soon became clear her
health would be a lifelong challenge. Despite everything, Sugar’s gentle spirit
never wavered. She loves people, gets along well with other dogs, and eagerly
accepts all the love she receives. While her skin needs ongoing treatment,
prescription food, and lifelong medication, Sugar is safe, cherished, and free
to enjoy the life she was once denied at her TRUAA home.

Cowboy is the mascot of TRUAA. He
embodies what we stand for and reminds us daily that even the most broken
spirits can heal with a chance. Cowboy came to TRUAA in 2019 after years of
being chained, neglected, and abused. He bore deep physical and emotional
scars, and it took years of patient care before he trusted again. Today, Cowboy
thrives in his TRUAA home. He spends his days greeting new arrivals, enjoying
the sunshine, and watching over the sanctuary with pride.

Fisher was brought into our care
and was diagnosed with Chagas Disease, congestive heart failure, kidney damage,
and serious gastrointestinal issues. With guidance from a veterinarian specialist
experienced in treating Chagas patients, he is on a carefully managed treatment
plan. Encouragingly, Fisher has started to gain weight, and we are beginning to
see early signs of progress. His ongoing care involves close monitoring,
regular veterinary visits, and long-term medical support— but thanks to these
efforts, Fisher has a real chance for stability and a better quality of life.

Sweet Myla’s story has already been filled with heartbreak and resilience. She was surrendered to Kerr County Animal Services in 2023 and came to us scared and unsure. With time, care, and rehabilitation, she blossomed into a happy, confident girl. In 2024, she found her forever home—but through no fault of hers or her adopters, she has found her way back to us. This time, Myla brought with her a silent struggle: after several veterinary visits, it was discovered that she has severe atrophy and lameness in her right hip. Every day, she lives with constant pain. Yet, despite this, Myla continues to show us her gentle spirit and will to keep going.

We’ve been given three options for her care (we will be going with option 2):

1. Total Hip Replacement – The gold standard of treatment at $12,000, but far beyond our reach.

2. Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) – A surgery that removes the part of the hip causing painful bone-on-bone grinding. Cost: $4,740. Recovery time is about 8 weeks, and it has an excellent success rate. Most importantly, it would remove her pain entirely.

3. Medication Management – What we’ve been doing until now. Unfortunately, it isn’t working, and Myla deserves more than just surviving in pain.

The FHO surgery is Myla’s best chance at a pain-free, joyful life. With your help, we can give her that chance.

These are just a few of the amazing dogs at our shelter that
show what makes TRUAA different from other rescue groups. We don’t turn away
these overlooked and at-risk dogs.
