Corner of Love- Halset Family

Dear friends and family,

Happy New Year to you all and hope that you enjoyed the holiday season. We had a fun road trip down to California with stops in Northern and Southern California to see some of our family. The weather was not on our side, but we are accustomed to gray skies and drizzle! 

I am writing because our family is heading to Costa Rica in February of this year to serve at a refugee center called Corner of Love. We'll be near the border of Nicaragua to help provide food, clothes, toiletries, and medical supplies/care for displaced Nicaraguan refugees. Due to the political environment in Nicaragua, over 40,000 refugees are leaving each year to safer countries...and many are having to leave all belongings behind and starting over in a new country. Our 6 days at Corner of Love will include all 5 of our family members serving in different capacities including me getting to use my nursing skills. 

We will be bringing many of the supplies with us from Washington to Costa Rica. It is difficult and more expensive to get a lot of the supplies they need in Costa Rica, and this is one of the big ways we plan to help. We can bring up to 10 suitcases total filled with hundreds of dollars worth of supplies. 

I'm excited about the opportunity and experience that lie ahead. I am especially excited for our kids to get to experience a trip where they are put to work to help others in need, to see how these peoples’ lives are different from their own, and to help make a difference. We are paying for this trip ourselves, but are hoping to raise support for the supplies and cost to get those supplies to Costa Rica.
