Losing my mom to breast cancer at a very young age left an indelible impression on me.  In fact to this day, her death is one of those life defining moments that will always be a part of who I am.  Working through the loss and seeing those who have survived, makes the work of the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) essential because of their commitment to breast cancer research, care, and survival.

I first made a connection with the PBCC when I was asked by Rep. Katie True to speak at a press conference for the Income Tax Check-Off.  After learning more about the PBCC, I was overwhelmed with the work they do everyday.  Helping the PBCC, how and where I can, has been one of the core parts of my legislative service.

Last year, in conjunction with Rep. Eugene DePasquale from York, I participated in the PA Home Run Derby.  We had teams compete at the Lancaster Barnstormers and the York Revolution derbies.  This great event helps to raise awareness about breast cancer and funds for the PBCC to continue its work throughout Pennsylvania.

This year, I have a challenge for you.  If we can raise $10,000 for the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition , I will dye my hair pink for the first derby of 2010 on Thursday, July 1 st at the Harrisburg Senators.   This is a great way, no matter what your political affiliation, for every person to support the PBCC.

I hope to see you on the field and in the pink at the Harrisburg Senators on Thursday, July 1st !
