November is National Runaway Prevention Month

Update posted 7 years ago

November is National Runaway Prevention Month. According to a National Runaway Safeline study, within the dysfunctional family environments cited by runaway and homeless youth, abuse is often a factor. Verbal abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse before the age of 18 are all correlated with higher run away rates.

Be sure to follow FCA on Facebook to keep up to date with events related to National Runaway Prevention Month.

Each and every day, FCA works to safely house and educate Long Island's runaway and homeless youth. FCA's residences are beautiful homes like that of many Long Islanders, they're not frightening and cold institutional-type buildings. FCA staff engage youth in a structured environment by maintaining household rules, strict vocational and academic expectations along with family-style dinners and other amenities and services meant to help youth grow into healthy, independent adults.

Consider supporting our shelter and residence by making a contribution. Your support keeps at-risk youth on a path to success, creating more upstanding members of our communities.
