To be a part of providing sustainable health care locally so that my community members can remain close to home means the world to me. The New hospital will not only provide a modern clinic and ER, but will also allow us to expand our skilled nursing facility and provide a level of care to our long-term patients and community members. 

Emergency Services

The new facility will grant us the opportunity to improve access to services. The Jerold Phelps Hospital and Emergency Room are vital to Humboldt County. Not only does our critical access hospital save lives(the nearest emergency service is over 45 minutes away), but it also provides a strong economic foundation. Many of our staff and patients commute from northern Humboldt down to our neck of the woods to receive care at our Emergency room, hospital, clinic, pharmacy, and optometry. 

I'm extremely excited about the possibility of new services. Most recognizable being the emergency helistop. As a critical access hospital, we play the vital role of stabilizing and transferring patients who need life-saving care to specialty facilities. In a rural area like ours, having this resource can make all the difference in the world. 

Skilled Nursing Facility

Jerold Phelps's Skilled Nursing Facility holds a special place in my heart. I have known many community members to have utilized its services, both long-term and short-term. It's a privilege to play a small part in providing them with a warm, welcoming, and experienced place to call home in their time of need. All of our staff strive to provide patients with a home away from home. With activities and outings planned by our Activity Director, nursing and cleaning staff, that allow patients to remain active members of the community they love. 

I came to the foundation 3 years ago, right after the installation of the Fitness Zone at the Southern Humboldt Community Park. Since then, I have helped organize the Annual Benbow Wine Auction and numerous smaller fundraising ventures. I also strive to contribute to our community, both internally and externally. I bring flowers to our skilled nursing residents, participate in hospital activities, and am an active member of two other local non-profits. 

I look forward to getting the word out about our Naming Opportunities, the upcoming Benbow Wine Auction on November 14th,  and working towards breaking ground on the new hospital.
