Thank you for joining us on Team Julia's Wings at the 5 Mile Kent Pumpkin Run!! The Julia’s Wings Foundation (‘JWF’) is very excited for our 2nd Annual team run/walk on Sunday, October 26th. Julia's Wings Foundation ("JWF") was founded by the Malsin Family after they lost their daughter Julia and big sister to Alyssa, to Aplastic Anemia in Jan 2012. Julia was only 13 years old when she passed away.
Julia was a truly remarkable girl. Her maturity, strength, positive attitude and determination is something that has made a tremendous impact in many people’s lives.
Last year, we had over 250 runners/walkers, out of a field of 700 at the Kent Pumpkin Run….truly amazing!
We are grateful to you all and hope we will have an even larger presence this year. We are so driven to carry out Julia’s wishes and we thank you for helping us to do so.
While Julia was hospitalized countless times during the course of her illness, she was always troubled, not by her excruciating pain, but by seeing children having to fight for their life, often without a parent by their side. In addition, there is an absence of funding available for children with Aplastic Anemia, unlike other diseases such as cancer. We are proud to say, thanks to our two major fundraisinging events; Team Julia’s Wings at the Kent Pumpkin and our 1st Annual Evening of Hope, we have raised over $64,000. We are so truly grateful and know it could not have been possible without the overwhelming generosity of our donors and sponsors.
Because of this generosity, we have been able to help four families stay by the side of their children by covering their mortgage payments and utilities for three-months.
We are even more hopeful this year, as Julia’s Wings Foundation has the opportunity to partner with the Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation to create a named research fund. They will match our fundraising dollars, up to $60,000 and it will be called the Julia Malsin Research Fund! This is so amazing, because there is little funding for research and an investment like this can really make a difference. Any additional funds will go directly towards helping families with children battling aplastic anemia.
Thank you again for your continued support of our mission and helping us Honor Our Promise Everyday; to make a real difference with this disease, so one more family does not have to know the pain and devastation Aplastic Anemia brought into our lives. Endless thanks! Heather, Mike, Alyssa & Julia <3For more information about Julia and our Foundation, please visit www.JuliasWings.org.
