UMBA is thrilled to support the Utah Center for Legal Inclusion (UCLI) in its Sixth Annual Fundraiser that ends on June 19, 2019 at 6pm.  In the past, UMBA has raised up to $45,000 for non-profit organizations.

UCLI is a state-wide effort to address the specific needs of Utah’s legal community to promote diversity in the law.  By coordinating with the Utah State Bar and its affinity groups, legal employers, government agencies, educational institutions, and community partners, UCLI strives to:

  • Enhance organizational inclusion
  • Facilitate educational opportunities and professional advancement for students and attorneys with diverse backgrounds
  • Assist in eliminating bias in Utah’s justice system
  • Track the progress of legal inclusion efforts throughout the state.

UCLI’s goal is to raise at least $50,000.00 from this fundraiser, primarily to fund the Education Project. The money raised would be used for the following:

  • $18,000 for bar exam preparation courses and registration fees for 10 or more diverse students for the 2019/2020 academic year. UCLI has already arranged 50% discounts for BarBri and Kaplan courses for the student recipients. UCLI needs funding to secure these discounts as they are only available to UCLI scholarship winners.
  • $11,500 in aid for the LSAT preparation courses for 10 or more college graduates for the 2019/2020 academic year.
  • $15,000 for high school and college students for mock trial related expenses.
  • $10,000 for the UCLI Mentoring Taskforce which will include website development, promotional materials, a phone application, quarterly socials for mentors and mentees, and the costs of mentors’ background checks necessary for mentoring of underage students.
  • $4,000 for in-state and out-of-state tabling and promotion of law as an option for minority students.  The two law schools have expressed a great need for help from UCLI to promote Utah law schools to minorities outside of Utah to increase the minority applicant pool while they work on their local pipeline.  This amount includes funding for setting up events at high schools and colleges and donating to causes such as Latinos in Action, BYU Summer Camp for minorities, and University of Utah Diversity Summer Camp.
  • $1,000 for providing mentoring socials for attorneys, judges and diverse students.

Please help us reach their fundraising goal that will go toward an important cause!
