Domestic violence and inter-partner violence are issues that affect every aspect of a victim's life.  Many people think of physical violence when they hear the words, 'domestic violence,' but the abuse can be financial, mental, and emotional, and extends beyond the victim to their families, workplaces, and communities.  On a typical day there are over 20,000 calls placed to Domestic Violence Hotlines, and an average of 20 people per minute are abused by an intimate partner or family member.  The abuse takes the form of reproductive coercion, familial isolation, financial control, stalking and harassment, rape, physical violence, and homicide. 1 in 4 women has been a victim of severe violence from a partner, leading to higher rates of depression and suicide, and a higher risk for developing addictions to alcohol, or drugs. Artists Against Violence aims to change these statistics by supporting organizations that provide programs and services to help victims of domestic violence, whether that is through shelter, counsel, legal assistance, or education, our goal is to break the cycle of abuse and help survivors get to a stable and secure place in their life.  This event is a variety show that will raise awareness and funds for two amazing organizations : Safe Horizon, which operates 8 shelters and runs numerous victims service programs across New York City, and the Center for Women of New York, which focuses on financial, educational, and social support programs and services for women.  With your help, we will raise funds to expand these programs, hire additional staff, and create initiatives to uplift and support women.
