Mission and Vision:
The mission of The Opportunity Alliance (TOA) is to work with people to help them build better lives and stronger communities. We provide advocacy, leadership, and support to identify the goals and address the needs of individuals, families, and communities. TOA envisions contributing meaningfully to a community in which families and individuals are thriving and supported as they pursue their aspirations for a better life. Within TOA, there is a shared belief that positive change is possible.
Who we are:
Founded in 1965, The Opportunity Alliance (TOA) is the Community Action Agency for Cumberland County, Maine. Through over 40 integrated programs and services, TOA strives to improve the lives of individuals and families in Maine. TOA provides access to basic needs, such as food and heating assistance, while working with individuals, families, and communities to increase their self-sufficiency and achieve their goals. We provide resources in four key areas: Mental Health and Wellness; Early Childhood Education; Economic Supports; and Community-Building. On the ground that means individuals getting the mental health and recovery services they need; children being ready for kindergarten; individuals finding employment and training opportunities; and communities growing safer and stronger. We work to address the root causes of poverty by working with our clients to stabilize fragile situations and then to develop the skills, supports, and opportunities which allow them to progress towards the results they seek.
