What does running have to do with music? At the Baltimore Symphony, running is the way fans, musicians, board members and staff come together to raise awareness and money for our Orchestra.
Each of us run for different reasons, but one thing we have in common is an interest in growing the BSO's programs that allow over 350,000 patrons to experience live, world-class music annually. Without our education programs that serve students across Maryland, many children would not ever have the opportunity to experience classical music. Our adult education programs allow people to reconnect with their love of music by performing under the direction of Marin Alsop!
On October 15, 2011, over 115 runners representing the BSO participated in the Marathon, Half-Marathon, 5k and Relay at the Baltimore Running Festival. Together, they raised $50,000 while spreading awareness of Maryland's largest music non-profit across the country and the world. This year, we need your help - as a runner, donor or volunteer - to reach our goal of $60,000! For more information about registering, visit www.bsomusic.org/bolt.
About the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra
The BSO has become a more relevant, artistically vibrant, and financially sustainable organization under the dynamic leadership of Music Director Marin Alsop – an Orchestra for the 21st century. Maestra Alsop has also sparked a re-evaluation of how the Orchestra can play a vital role in meeting critical community needs, positioning the BSO as a national leader for its use of music as a vehicle to effect positive change. The BSO’s approach to effective community engagement calls on unconventional access points that instill in all residents a lifelong affinity for music and have a real and positive community impact. The BSO performs roughly 200 concerts each year, serving 350,000 audiences and touching the lives of 55,000 youth through hands-on education and mentorship programs.
