500,000 Rowing Meters in One Day!

  • Sunday April 6, Eastern Market Flea Market, we will row 500,000 meters on "erg" rowing machines
  • 500,000m will bring us to over 15 MILLION meters rowed so far in the 2013-2014 school year
  • 500,000m is also about the same distance we will travel to our spring races
  • $5,000 raised is our goal - just 1 penny for every meter rowed

Capital Juniors Spring 2014 Ergathon

How You Can Help

  • Pledge to support your student athlete and the team. Each rower will row a half-marathon - 21,097m
  • Donations will help to support the Capital Juniors in their Spring 2014 season. Each athlete's season "dues" pays for about half of the cost of operating the team. We rely on donations of time and funds from Capital Rowing Club members and supporters to make up the gap.
  • Every dollar we raise over our goal of $5,000 will be used to fund the Capital Juniors college scholarship fund – to help pay for books for one or more of our team members.  Last year we raised over $1,200 towards this goal!

What Difference Can My Donation Make?

  • $25 can pay for the gas to get us to our first race of the season in Baltimore
  • $50 can pay for a new pair of rowing shoes for a boat
  • $100 can pay for a new pair of slings – used to hold a rowing shell on land
  • $250 can pay for a season scholarship for one of our team members
  • $500 can pay for a set of new seats for a four-person rowing shell
  • $2,500 can pay for a new set of oars for an eight-person rowing shell
  • $25,000 can pay for a new four-person rowing shell
  • $45,000 can pay for a new eight-person rowing shell

Ergathon Day - we will be at the flea market when it opens at 10am on April 6, pulling towards our goals.  Come and join us, support the team, and try rowing for yourself!

More about Capital Juniors - Learning is our focus. Rowing is a multidimensional sport that teaches discipline, camaraderie, fitness, work ethic, leadership and teamwork. Our members build self confidence and use rowing to help them on the path to enter college and other opportunities.

Accessibility matters. We provide scholarships for athletes who are not able to pay. Novice rowers do not need to have any previous rowing experience, and for some of our athletes their first experience in a boat is with Capital Juniors. Capital Juniors is one of only two rowing programs open to public high school students in DC.

Our plans include increasing the scale and reach of our program.  Over 50 athletes rowed on the team in fall 2013, a new record for us.  In 2013 Capital also secured a $20,000 racing boat for use by the Juniors and other programs.  And through classes and community events Capital reached over 200 area youth, bringing more opportunities directly to students in local schools, and providing more services to prepare students for college and beyond.

Capital Juniors is a part of Capital Rowing Club, a community based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Donations are tax deductible.
