Who are we?
We are graduate students and speech-language pathologists working together to promote stroke prevention and raise awareness and funds to benefit people with aphasia.
What is aphasia??
Aphasia (uh-fay'-zhuh): An acquired language disorder that impairs a person's ability to communicate. It does not affect the person's intelligence. It can affect a person's ability to speak, understand, read, or write and affects each person differently. Stroke is the most common cause of aphasia.
How will these funds benefit people with aphasia?
Money raised will be sent directly to the American Aphasia Society, a local non-profit with the mission to educate the nation about aphasia, improve access to resources and rehabilitation, provide hope, and better lives.
How are we preventing stroke?
The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week in order to improve overall cardiovascular health. During the 4-week campaign, we are living this recommendation to promote stroke prevention. We are using our fitness commitment to raise awareness and money to benefit the aphasia community.
