$2,000 Goal
Hi Everyone! Thank you for taking the time to visit this page, for your consideration donating, and reading Our Story and our Why behind this challenge!
It has been a few years since I (Jeff) have done a charity challenge. I absolutely love pushing my limits physically and mentally. The last challenge I did was the "Fort Hill 300". Together with the help of an amazing community of friends, family, fellow coaches, we accomplished the goal of achieving the up and down of the Fort Hill Steps 300 times in a two day span (about 18.5 hours total to accomplish the work). Together, we raised over $3,000 for the Olmsted Spirit Scholarship Fund.
This past Spring I met an absolutely incredible person, Kory Wheeler, who helped coach our Olmsted Falls Intermediate School Boys Run Club (4th/5th graders). Over the last few months Kory and I have formed a brotherhood and we share in the vision of helping and serving our youth and giving back to charities however we can.
Kory and I decided to tackle the "Fort Hill 150" Challenge together in hopes of earning your donations "One Step At A Time". We will earn your hard earned donation through our own sweat equity. While I have personally done more stairs in the previous challenge, I gave myself an unlimited amount of time to accomplish the goal. This challenge is special and tough because Kory and I have decided to give ourselves a ten hour time cap to accomplish the following:
150 Total Stair Climbs
140 of those 150 are both up and down (310 steps total. Approximately we will accumulate 43,400 steps)
10 of the 150 we will go up, but then run the approximately 1k path back down to the base of the stairs (thus running approximately a 10k distance. Together with the 155 steps up plus the approximate number of steps we will take running the 10k, 12,500, we will accumulate about 14,050 steps)
**I'm guessing we will accumulate a total of about 60,000 steps when we are done.
The Fort Hill Stairs have a vertical distance of about 90 ft so we will accumulate about 13,500 feet of vertical distance which equals approximately 2.55 miles.
If you have never been to the Fort Hill Stairs you will not fully appreciate the amount of work Kory and I are facing. Climbing the stairs just once takes the average person's breath away. We will start at 6:00AM and plan to finish before 4:00pm on Sunday, June 23. More than likely it will be a hot day. That adds to the challenge of making sure we keep properly hydrated and nourished.
One thing I will never forget from The Fort Hill 300 was the amazing amount of support and encouragement I received from friends and family that day. Kory and I are hoping for the same on June 23! We welcome anyone and everyone to stop by and say hi, and if you feel up to it, join us in some "reps" going up and down the stairs! Or you can wait and join us going up and go for our run back down!
For this challenge we have set a goal of raising a total of $2,000. I asked friends on Facebook to recommend charities (local or national) that are near and dear to their hearts that might help motivate others to want to help Kory and I achieve our fundraising goal. Thank you to those people who shared an organization and why it is important to them! Together with their recommendations, we have chosen a total of ten organizations we are raising money for. However, if there is an organization that you want to specifically give to out of the twelve, please make sure you tell us so we can give your donation to that organization! Below are the following organizations/charities we have chosen!
GO2 For Lung Cancer
Olmsted Falls Athletic Boosters - Cross Country and Track and Field Programs
Love Doesn't Shove - Gabriella Kreuz (Cleveland Guardians In-Park Host and Ch 19 Feature Segments)
Young Life Olmsted Falls/Berea led by Alex Meyers
Olmsted Falls Ultimate Frisbee - led by Coach Justin Zrenner
The Drake "WWDD" Davidson Scholarship
Once again, Kory and I would not ask you to donate without the belief that we are earning it! This challenge is special to us because we both love pushing our physical capabilities for a great purpose. If you have any questions, please reach out!
Thank you once again for your consideration, and we hope that you can come out and support on Sunday, June 23!
