First photos are in for today's walk! Hello Handleman-Arlens!

Update posted 5 years ago

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1 - This year, it's virtual!

While we may not be able to walk together in person, we can still join together in support of DOORS and in remembrance of Dr. Jan Handleman, a pioneer in autism education and director of the Douglass Developmental Disabilities Center.  You can create or join a team by clicking JOIN EVENT,  or choose to make an individual donation by clicking DONATE. Then,  post your updates and videos for all to see, and take a walk "together" on Sunday, November 1st to celebrate the life of Dr. Handleman and the successes of the students of the Douglass Developmental Disabilities Center!

As always - 100% of all funds raised go to support programs funded by DOORS, a  parent-run 501 c(3) which provides  essential social, educational, and recreational services for children and adults with disabilities at the DDDC.  Every dollar raised will provide a benefit to these programs, and will make a lasting difference in the life of a DDDC student.

A letter from the Chair

Welcome all!

I truly love the Handleman Walk for Autism, the special day that comes once a year that we get to celebrate my father, Dr. Jan Handleman, and his life’s work together.  The day we get to carry his legacy on by helping those touched by autism by walking together.

I wish I could easily summarize the life of someone whose impact was so great and who was so important to so many.

Dr. Jan Handleman was a longtime director of the Douglass Developmental Disabilities Center where he unlocked the potential of many students across the spectrum by finding critical treatments and support services for their families.  He was a pioneer in the field of autism and devoted his life to helping individuals with autism.

We get to continue his dreams every year at the walk by supporting the children and adults of the center with your gifts.  We get to keep his work alive with your love.

I thank you all for helping me to do so by joining the walk!

Warm regards,

Lauren (Handleman) Arlen
