The Humane Society of Jefferson County is a private non-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation founded in 1922.  The majority of funds are raised through donations, charitable giving, bequests, and events such as the annual Fur Ball, a black tie affair held in the month of October, our FF5K Run/Walk, and various other fundraisers sponsored by the shelter or the public.

Our Mission

The mission of the Humane Society of Jefferson County is to care for the lost, homeless and abused animals of Jefferson County, help place them in forever homes, and work to inspire kinder and more humane communities.

Our Services

The HSJC provides life-saving services for abandoned, stray, and surrendered animals, as well as a wide range of community services and humane education. Each year the HSJC helps save, serve, and find forever homes for almost 1,000 animals in need.
