Katie Samson grew up in Wayne, PA and attended Middlebury College where she played Division III lacrosse and helped her team capture a National Championship in 1999. The following winter, Katie suffered a spinal cord injury while sledding and became a quadriplegic. After months of rehabilitation, Katie went back to finish her degree and help coach her college lacrosse team to two more National titles.
In 2000, the Radnor lacrosse community hosted a benefit lacrosse scrimmage with 8 JV teams to offset the costs associated with Katie’s Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). The first official KSF Lacrosse Festival was held the following year in 2001. Motivated by Katie’s perseverance and courage, volunteers in the lacrosse community and beyond have supported this cause year after year. With the generous support of our corporate and family sponsors, donations from attendees, as well as the fundraising efforts by each participating team, the KSF Lacrosse Festival has raised over $2,000,000 in its 19 years.
As a result of these efforts, the Katie Samson Foundation has been able to serve a purpose and support many programs, making a difference in the lives of those with spinal cord injury. Over the years, gifts have been made to a number of promising research and rehabilitation treatments and programs that provide much needed independence and quality of life improvement for those with spinal cord injury.
This year marks the 19th anniversary of the Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival and will feature a record setting 54 teams. Exciting and competitive games will take place between many of the region’s top-ranked high school lacrosse teams. Watch our video to see what we're all about.
