The Event
On Sunday June 15th 2014, Team La Dôle will hike from St Cergue (1041m) to the top of La Dôle (1677m) to raise money to build a new home for the Maisha orphans in Kenya. We hope this event will allow us to take a significant step towards achieving our dream of providing these orphans with the home we believe they truly deserve.
About Maisha
Maisha rescues children from the streets and slums in Nairobi, orphaned mainly by HIV/AIDS, political strife, and extreme poverty, and gives them a safe and loving home, food, and education in a semi-rural farm environment outside Nairobi.
The Need
20 children and 5 caregivers live together in the tiny Maisha home. 2-3 kids and adults share each bed. A metal wall and bed sheets enclose a dining area and homework area. 4 people sleep in the metal shed outside.
At a critical time when many of the kids are becoming young adults, Maisha desperately needs a new space large enough to safely accommodate the existing family and strong enough to provide sustainable housing for the next several generations of Maisha scholars.
The Home
Construction will start in 2014 on a house with 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a dining area, living room, kitchen/laundry-room, and garage.
The Goal
We're doing our part to help raise $10,000 towards the estimated $60,000 budget that still remains unfunded.
