Please support our youth mission trip to Oaxaca Mexico!
In June a team of youth and adults from CUCC will travel to Oaxaca Mexico to work with Witness For Peace. WFP’s mission is to support peace, justice and sustainable economies in the Americas by changing U.S. policies and corporate practices that contribute to poverty and oppression in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Why are we traveling? And why Mexico?
As a people of faith and conscience, we see a great need to care for our brothers and sisters in Mexico who are striving to survive poverty, injustice, and oppression. This is an especially important time to visit, to learn, to share our love and support, and to invest our time and energy in these our neighbors?
But why Oaxaca? I mean it’s hard to say and harder to spell.
Because of the serious way they engage in education and reciprocal relationship building, we have carefully chosen Witness for Peace as our host organization, and they have a permanent presence in Oaxaca. This trip will allow us to build close friendships, learn about the realities of life in Oaxaca, and see first-hand the effects of U.S. policies on the people of Mexico. We will come to know specifically how we can work for peace and human rights at a time when our government is doing the opposite - imposing violence and ignoring human rights.
How is this a mission? "Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony." Colossians 12:14.
We hope that by meeting and working side by side with brothers and sisters from another culture, we'll learn more about how to clothe ourselves in love. Thank you for being a part of it.
