Kane's Pawsome 5K Run/Walk

Kane’s Krusade is a 501 (c) 3 with the mission of keeping pet families together.  We address the root causes of surrender – economic, behavioral and housing.  We distribute Canine Assistance, Resource and Empowerment (C.A.R.E.) Kits providing food, spay/neuter assistance, vet assistance, dog training and tenant advocacy to low-income pet families in the Greater Springfield MA area.  We deliver these services right to the homes of the elderly, disabled, veterans and other vulnerable populations.  

Kane’s Krusade thrives where the greatest needs are – underserved neighborhoods with little access to pet care, resources and information.  Our pet families invite us into their homes every month.  We focus on building relationships with goodwill, trust and communication through a non-judgmental approach.  Simply put, we enjoy people as much as their pets, allowing us to provide the most effective pet resources tailored to each family.

What makes us different from other animal welfare programs?  Our unique Pet Family Advocacy Model views pets as an essential component of the family unit and integral to well-being.  We see the people in our pet families as the key to program success.  Our Pay It Forward program integrates program recipients into our mission.  Over 80% of our volunteers are our pet families.  

Over the past 7 years, we have kept hundreds of dogs out of shelters, sponsored the spay/neuter of more than 350 dogs, provided 18,000 lbs of pet food annually and invested over $12,000 annually in vet care.  The ASPCA partnered with us in funding a shelter intervention project resulting in keeping 97% of high-risk dogs with their families 6 months or longer.   Over 60% of those helped were high at-risk pit bull dogs.  Significantly, a people-centered benefit also emerged from our work.  Our pet families with PTSD, depression and anxiety experienced increases in productivity and feelings of well-being, hopefulness and happiness.
