Toby Wallace was a friend, supporter, and role model to PCR Athletes. While being a very competitive oarsman, he understood the importance of the actual experience of an athletic endeavor — exactly why Toby was drawn to the mental and physical challenge of extreme endurance events. Toby demonstrated how rowing developed both this character and his career through the learned skills of discipline, perseverance, and teamwork.
PCR will be honoring Toby’s memory by helping get more of Philadelphia’s inner city youth exposed to athletics and the outdoors by raising the funds through this 34 mile endurance event, similar to the ones that Toby himself had participated in. The funds raised during this event will be used to purchase new rowing equipment- a necessity to ensure the success of PCR’s high school and middle school programming.
In order to engage supporters in an event that Toby himself would have wanted to participate in, we are encouraging donors to not only make a monetary donation but also a physical donation of running part of the 34 miles. Elle Carolan, PCR’s Director of Mentoring, will be running four times around the Schuylkill River loop on Saturday, May 10th during the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta.
