Dear Friends and Family of Pike,
My name is Lance Hansen and I, along with my brother Rodrigo Rodriguez, have the pleasure of serving as this year’s Fireman’s Challenge Chiefs. As brothers in GW Pi Kappa Alpha (Pike), I can safely say that some of the most memorable experiences of my college years have been participating in our signature philanthropic campaign, Fireman’s Challenge, which supports the DC Firefighters Burn Foundation. This year’s fundraiser is rapidly approaching and as our Brothers could not be more excited to continue to support our local firefighters and other burn survivors in the DC area, we need your help to achieve our goal of raising $100,000.
Every year, the new members and brothers of Pike collaborate with the incredibly supportive women of GW’s Panhellenic sororities as well as the DC community to raise funds and spread awareness for the DC Firefighters Burn Foundation: a local, non-profit organization composed of members of the District of Columbia Fire Department volunteering their time, energy and resources to enhance the quality of life for all survivors of burn injuries in the DC metropolitan area.
Fireman’s Challenge has had a lasting and tangible impact for the Burn Foundation. Over the last ten years, our fraternity has raised almost $350,000, which has helped to open a new surgical unit and research laboratory at the Washington Hospital Center. Additionally, the funds donated have also helped doctors treat more severe burn injuries through the use of new, innovative equipment--as well as sponsoring local child burn victims in their trip to the Union Connecticut Burn Camp, where the children can partake in activities such as swimming, boating, archery, high ropes courses, firefighter games, and arts & crafts.Every year Pike makes trips to the Washington Hospital Center’s Burn Unit and we see firsthand all the astounding work the doctors do to care for the patients and improve their quality of life any way they can.
Thank you so much for your support! Lance and Rod
