Sapphire Cup raises money for the Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation, which in turn supports two very special organizations: Kids in Need Foundation, which helps underprivileged students by providing them with free school supplies, and Practice Makes Perfect, an organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap of ninth graders by creating summer learning opportunities for students.
One in five children live in poverty in the United States— many of these children may not have access to the basic school supplies that allows them to succeed in their academics. Likewise, two-thirds of the ninth-grade achievement gap can be attributed to unequal access to summer learning opportunities, mostly in socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhoods. These two organizations provide the tools to help students not only begin succeeding in school, but ultimately help them learn valuable lessons they will use for the rest of their lives.
