Want to Join me on July 11th? Peloton and Zwift
I can use some company on July 11. Will you join me?
There are two ways (Peloton and Zwift) for us to ride together.
Here they are:
Peloton Spin Bike:
1 - Connect with me at #MyLastBadDay
2 - Follow via #Thankyou19
3 - Ride Schedule
Zwift:
1 - Connect - Michael OBrien Team Shift
2 - 50 Min Meet-Ups starting at 1:00 am & running to 7:00 pm every hour.
3 - Once we are connected, I will invite you to the meetup - let me know if you have a preference
4 - Ride On!
The Thank You-19 Ride
I'm Michael OBrien. I'm a husband, father, and friend from New Jersey. Every July 11, I like to get outside my comfort zone and support others because I'm only here today because others helped me during my crisis.
On July 11, 2001, I had My Last Bad Day, when a speeding SUV hit me head-on during a bike training ride and I'm thriving today because of the support from others.
What I felt in the early days of my recovery was similar to what we all experienced in the early stages of our COVID crisis. I was worried, anxious, and fearful. I wondered about my new identity because I knew I couldn't go back to how things were before my accident.
Because of this uncertainty, I became frustrated and angry. I thought life was unfair and wondered why this was happening to me. Then a mentor shared with me that all the events in my life were neutral until I labeled them and perhaps this wasn't happening to me but for me.
I had control over my labels and actions - just like today. We all do.
This year to celebrate 19 years for living with purpose and honoring those who have supported me, I'm riding cycling 19 hours (inside for safety) for 19 charities supporting others during this unprecedented time.
Some think this is crazy but what's crazier are the inequities we've tolerated in the world and we need to do more to solve them.
I'm calling this virtual charity bike ride the Thank You-19 Ride, and I hope you will join me in riding toward a goal of raising $1.9M. It will be tough, but as my little league coach used to say, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going," and I will add, "and get going together."
In addition to donating and you can join me on the ride, virtually of course, on Zwift or your Peloton spin bike. I don't expect you to ride the full 19 hours but I would love to ride as many miles with you as possible. I'm hoping we can get cyclists and donors from all across the world because we have charities focused on global and domestic support.
And to make this even more awesome-sauce, like any charity run, ride, or walk, you can create your own Thank You-19 Ride team and raise funds together.
So if you are in the position to give, please choose your charity of choice below.
If you can't give, I hope you will share this with others ripple some good goodness because we need more goodness today.
And you can ride, please join me.
If you are reading this, you are part of my peloton. Thank you for the support you have given me over the years and I hope we can support others today.
Until July 11, have fun storming the castle!
Michael
