Cambodia remains one of the poorest countries in the world. About a third of its total population lives on less than a dollar a day. In terms of gender equality, widespread discriminatory attitudes and norms persist.

Women in Cambodia are viewed as second class citizens. Educating girls is considered a waste of time and money because a woman’s primary role is to raise children. Women who desire education or support are constantly confronted with barriers of accessibility that restrict them from pursuing roles other than mother or domestic laborer.

In response to these issues, Women’s Empowerment Coalition is working with Cambodian run Women’s Resource Center to construct a childcare facility that will enable more women to attend their free educational workshops.

Building this childcare center will allow women to focus on their personal, professional, and educational development as well as help prepare the next generation of youth. Once it’s completed, more women in Siem Reap will have greater access to knowledge on women’s health, women’s rights and gender roles, positive parenting, and financial literacy.

We’re running this online campaign to ask for your help. We need your support to make this possible. Women in Cambodia deserve better, and every contribution counts no matter how big or small. Let’s give Cambodian women a brighter future!
