A Giving Day (also called a Giving Event or Day of Giving) is an online fundraising marathon that aims to bring people together to support a specific community, cause, or university. Giving Days and Giving Events are often hosted by community foundations. The Giving Event hosts organize the event and participating nonprofits by setting a collective fundraising goal, working to engage sponsors and provide prizes, and in many cases securing media coverage. Nonprofits participating in a Giving Day or Giving Event compete for prizes, see a flurry of donations, and a boost in new donors from the Giving Day. While many Giving Days last for 24- hours, they can also last for several weeks or months.
(Aside from yours, of course.)
