8 Flags Playscapes Inc

8 Flags Playscapes, Inc. is a non-profit grass-roots community organization dedicated to building a place where playing is fun for everyone.  That place will be called "Pirate Playground" and will be located in Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island.   The playground design is focused on the  history, art, and nature of our wonderful community,  Fernandina Beach.

Aaron Morgan, a young father of two realized the need for a change after seeing a news program about a playground where all kids could play, regardless of their ability.  Kids could play twenty feet in the air and travel from building to building, even in wheelchairs!  Children could be children and enjoy the gift of play!

He enjoyed taking his daughter to the local parks and one day asked himself,”What if".  What if my daughter was in a wheelchair, how would we play here?  I have a son on the way, what if one of my children couldn't play here?  I can't leave one of them at home.  What if a parent has a disability?  How would they bring their children here? It was then, that the need was realized and the idea became a reality.  Aaron gathered a cadre of individuals who banded together to create the area’s first Universally Accessible playground.   The group was invited to become part of the Freedom Playground Foundation out of Tampa, Fl. As Freedom Playground, they were able to obtain land from the City of Fernandina Beach, host many successful fundraisers, and gain much needed community support.

In 2011, after a few years of operating, we decided it was important to breathe new life into the organization.  First, we re-organized as our own local non-profit, 8 Flags Playscapes.  Second, we re-designed our playground which that resulted in a reduced project budget.  With new life,  we look forward to the upcoming months and believe that with the help of the community,   children and adults of all abilities will have a place to play without barriers.  

100% of all donations go towards the design and
construction of this playground.  All individuals working with this project give 100% effort and all work is done on a volunteer basis.
