Master Watershed Stewards uniquely address the problem of stormwater pollution coming from private property - 60% of Anne Arundel County is private property.  The average small home dumps enough polluted stormwater into the nearest creek or river every year to fill nine full tanker trucks.

Our mission as a non-profit is to identify, train and support ordinary citizens to become Master Watershed Stewards who take action with their neighbors to divert the stormwater running off of hard surfaces into the ground.  To date, we have trained a growing group of over 100 Watershed Stewards who now influence neighborhood behaviors for immediate results in pollution reduction.  Collectively, these small actions are improving the health of local streams and rivers.

Your gift helps train and support Stewards as they:

  • Educate and enlist their neighbors to act for clean water
  • Implement visible pollution-reducing projects
  • Change old habits within their neighborhoods that contribute to water pollution

In 2012 alone Master Watershed Stewards:

  • Engaged 5,200 citizens through 167 presentations and RainScaping events
  • Planted over 4,500 native trees and plants
  • Installed 206 Rain Barrels
  • Created 9,000 square feet of RainScaping

The Watershed Stewards Academy is a 501c3 organization.  We depend upon foundation grants and your donations to train more Stewards and ultimately make our Rivers and Bay clean again!
