A.S.A.P. (Americans Serving Abroad Projects)

A.S.A.P.(Americans Serving Abroad Projects), Inc is a non-profit organization founded in May 2014 by Lauri Rupracht, a pediatric RN from Marcellus NY. Lauri began participating in mission trips to Ghana in 2010 and wanted to share her love of Ghana with others as well as expand the impact she was able to make to improve the lives, health and education of the poverty stricken communities in rural Ghana. She began by leading groups on short term mobile healthcare mission trips. These trips involve traveling out to the remote villages and setting up temporary medical posts to provide dental care, physical exams, breast exams, and education. Needed medications, vitamins and supplements are also dispensed. A vulnerable children's program teaches children how to care for their wounds, proper toothbrushing and general hygiene practices. Many of these people have never seen a medical doctor and most have never seen a dentist. In an average 10day to 2 week mission trip, over 1000 people are served. Medical supplies are also donated to rural health clinics and hospitals, and  school supplies and shoes are donated to local schools.

Perhaps even more valuable than the care given, is the impact of the positive human interactions and cultural exchanges that occur between the volunteers and the local people. This impact is immeasurable but is widely apparent through the smiles of the elderly and the joyous laughter of the children. ASAP believes that change comes with positive human interactions and a sharing of culture, knowledge and understanding. Our volunteers go to Ghana to improve the lives of those in need. They return home realizing that it is their own lives that have been enhanced in a way that cannot fully be described. It is these human experiences that have the power to change the world.
