Arts As Healing Foundation (AAH) is an innovative, non-profit organization founded in 2013.
AAH offers programs that address the holistic and creative needs of people with chronic illness. Participants can experience our program either at one of six hospital based infusion centers, at our Maryland Height, MO studio. or through ZOOM . Participants come from over 250 zip codes.
Patients at an infusion center are introduced to AAH while they are waiting for a consultation or while they are receiving treatment. Having a creative outlet while in a clinical environment leads to lower stress and anxiety
In our studio classes, AAH fosters strong relationships among participant because of their shared health experience. Our classes provide a safe, non-judgmental environment where participants do not need to explain about their concerns and worries. They come to experience the joys of creativity and to momentarily forget about their circumstances.
COVID-19 presented a double whammy for our participants, further isolating them and causing additional stress and fear. To counteract the pandemic, we started interactive Zoom classes for all participant. This flexibility helped them stay connected and to cope. We continue to use the ZOOM platform as well as in-person sessions. All sessions are recorded and archived on our site and available to all participants when their schedule allows.
Referrals also come from Oncologists, Hematologists, Surgeons, nurses and social workers. Additionally, our participants extend our reach by telling friends, family, and acquaintances about the program and the transformational impact it has had on their lives. We regularly post information on social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram.
