At the ACLU of Nebraska, we envision a just and accountable Nebraska where "We the People" means all of us, and where the human rights, civil rights, and civil liberties of all people in Nebraska are honored and protected. We educate, advocate, and litigate to defend and expand the human rights, civil rights, and civil liberties of all Nebraskans.

The ACLU-NE is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, legal and advocacy organization - a state affiliate of the National ACLU. For nearly 60 years, we have been working in Nebraska's courts, the Capitol, and our communities to protect and expand our rights and freedoms. To give us as many tools as possible to do our work, we are composed of both a 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4). We are a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that does not receive government grants or funding that serves Omaha, Lincoln and the greater Nebraska area.

We serve all Nebraskans, with a specific emphasis on serving those who have been historically marginalized from our communities and face disparate harms. The ACLU-NE carries out its mission through a sophisticated program of integrated advocacy with strategies that include litigation, negotiation, policy research, and public education. Our intersectional work in areas such as LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive freedom, racial justice including Indigenous justice, criminal legal reform (Smart Justice), Immigrant's rights, voting rights (direct democracy) and others is critical to enabling all Nebraskans to live freely, fully and authentically.
