The mission of the Allegheny County Parks Foundation is to help improve, conserve, maintain, protect, preserve and restore the Allegheny County Parks facilities and open spaces and to support educational, recreational, natural and cultural activities.

Preservation and improvement of park assets are at the core of the Parks Foundation mission. A range of capital improvements were identified and prioritized in the Parks Comprehensive Master Plan. Signature projects underway include the North Park Lake Trail, Settler's Cabin Connector Trail, the South Park Fairgrounds Oval, and shade structures at Round Hill Park. The South Park Connector Trail was completed in 2012. The trail projects are part of a strategy to connect the County Parks to the existing County-wide trail system. South Park Connector Trail will connect to the Montour Trail. The North Park Lake Trail will connect to the Rachel Carson Trail. Settler's Cabin Connector Trail will enable a connection to the Panhandle Trail using the roadway for a short distance. By connecting parks with trails, the parks become destinations for activities and serve as safe trail heads for trail walks and rides throughout the county.
