AMRG has been helping search and rescue lost and missing people since 1985. Our team currently has 35 members and we respond to approximately 30 searches a year. AMRG specializes in ground searching, canine teams, managing searches, wilderness medical personnel, and wilderness rescues and evacuations. Members train year round and on average spend two years learning the needed skills to be effective search and rescue technicians. AMRG assists our community by raising awareness about safety in wilderness settings. We teach adults and children wilderness survival skills and wilderness medical training to the Emergency Medical Community.
AMRG's primary response area is southwestern Pennsylvania and the surrounding areas in West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland. AMRG is a member of the Pennsylvania Search and Rescue Council, the Appalachian Search and Rescue Conference, and is the only team in the state of Pennsylvania that is accredited by the Mountain Rescue Association. All of our members are volunteers and our services are provided for free to governmental agencies.
"The Department of Public Safety would like to express its appreciation for the efforts of Allegheny Mountain Rescue Group during the search. The training and professionalism that your group demonstrated was exceptional. If a similar incident arises in the future, we would be please to work with you again."
