Allegheny Valley Association of Churches

The Allegheny Valley Association of Churches is a Christian agency composed of churches working together to meet the spiritual, social and physical needs of the community.

The Allegheny Valley Association of Churches (AVAC) is a 501(c)3 human service organization that provides basic need services to those experiencing poverty, unemployment, food insecurity, & homelessness. We have been providing these services since 1958 & are the go-to provider in our community as a 1-stop shop. We operate 13 programs to help alleviate the stress experienced by those struggling to meet basic needs on a daily basis. We operate a food pantry, a free store, utility assistance, rental assistance, transportation assistance, free tax preparation, housing programs, & more. Although we are a non-profit organization, we are a Christian ministry comprised of 55 member churches.

Two of our current initiatives directly provide food to families & individuals experiencing food insecurity. Our food bank is open every Wednesday & participants are welcome to attend twice per month. We also host a mass food distribution at the Pittsburgh Mills mall on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Family Promise House is our residential program for families with children who are experiencing homelessness. Families receive meals, case management, & a safe place to stay, all while seeking housing.
