Give Big Kern Feature Story: AAA Dog Rescue Giving Kern’s Abandoned Dogs a Second Chance
In the heart of Kern County, where the need is overwhelming and the cries of abandoned animals are often unheard, one woman decided to listen and act.
For 12 years, Sonya Nonini gave her heart and soul to caring for abandoned dogs as a volunteer and board member of a local rescue. But when that organization could no longer or would no longer stand behind the very animals they pledged to protect, Sonya faced a heartbreaking decision: walk away, or stand alone. With 29 dogs still depending on her care and no financial support in sight, she did what few would have the courage to do she started over. From scratch. For them.
That was the beginning of Adopting Abandoned Animals (AAA) Dog Rescue, a nonprofit built not just out of compassion, but out of sheer determination to rewrite the story for Kern County’s forgotten dogs. Sonya didn’t do it for credit. She did it because there was no one else left to care.
Since its founding, AAA has grown into a vital part of Kern County’s rescue network. With a dedicated team of fosters and volunteers, a licensed facility that enables sustainable operations, and a 24/7 commitment to the animals in their care, AAA Dog Rescue has become a beacon of hope.
But this isn’t about looking back it’s about building a future. AAA doesn’t just house dogs; they heal them. Every dog that comes through AAA’s doors whether rescued from the streets, local shelters, orchards, riverbeds, or neglected homes receives individualized attention, stability, and love. Volunteers work daily with these animals, getting to know their personalities, quirks, and needs so they’re not just adopted they’re matched with the right forever home.
Many of these dogs are seniors who require specialized medical care, dental procedures, and nutritional support. Every bit of that is made possible through donations from people like you. Without your generosity, they can’t receive the care they need to thrive or even survive.
AAA doesn’t do this work alone. They collaborate with other rescues and community organizations to tackle Kern’s growing animal crisis head-on. But the need is great, and the resources are stretched thin.
This Give Big Kern, you have the power to be part of something bigger to be part of a movement that says every life matters. When you give to AAA Dog Rescue, you’re not just making a donation. You’re giving abandoned animals the second chance they never thought they’d have.
Help us turn heartbreak into hope. Help Sonya and her team continue their mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome Kern’s forgotten dogs.
Give big. Give hope. Give to AAA Dog Rescue.
